The Rivers Casino & Resort located in Schenectady, New York is set to open a new hotel this July with 165 guest rooms. Management of the casino has announced that the new hotel located on Mohawk Harbor will be titled The Landing Hotel, revealing the name and logo just before a job fair for the venue took place today. Company officials are hoping the new hotel will be an upscale boutique destination for the upstate area of New York.
The company is preparing to open the new hotel by July and are in the process of filling positions within the venue. Rivers has also been trying to fill over 100 positions within the casino, which has been a difficult process. According to Mary Cheeks, the General Manager of the casino, the process is time-consuming as classes are involved as well as legal processes to become a casino dealer.
Rivers Casino hosted a job fair on Saturday from 10am until 3pm to try and fill around 150 positions, with many for the hotel. The hotel needs to employ around 60 people with positions open for front desk supervisors, front desk agents, room attendants and housekeeping supervisors. The casino 7BALL positions that the venue needs to fill are food servers, cage cashiers, security officers, table game dealers and valet attendants. Cheeks feels that the staff of the casino needs to be bumped up due to an increase in customers once the hotel opens.
The hiring process is also partially due to customer feedback. Customers are reportedly complaining about drink service and had mentioned to staff members that other casinos offer self-serve beverage stations, so Rivers plans on adding more drink servers as part of the hiring process.
